On Wednesday, Havana D'Primera, one of the greatest Cuban salsa bands in the world, will return to set Rovinj on fire again after their unforgettable performance in 2019!
Cuban salsa orchestra Havana D'Primera, founded in 2007 by trumpet player and singer Alexander Abreu, quickly gained fame in Cuba and internationally. Known for blending salsa, jazz, funk, and Afro-Cuban rhythms, the 16-piece band introduced a fresh sound in Cuban contemporary salsa with their highly danceable, irresistible "tumbao" groove.
To date, they have released six studio albums and one live album. Their debut album, Haciendo Historia (2009), won "Best Debut Album" at Cubadisco 2010. Their 2013 album Pasaporte was critically acclaimed and named one of the best Latin albums of the year by NPR and the Los Angeles Times. La Vuelta al Mundo (2015) won multiple awards, including "Best Popular Dance Music Album" at Cubadisco 2015, and their 2018 album Cantor del Pueblo received a Latin Grammy nomination.
Their 2021 album, Será Que Se Acabó, paid tribute to '80s and '90s Cuban music, winning the Cubadisco "Grand Prize" in 2022.
In 2023, they released Pueblo Grifo, which includes a collaboration with Puerto Rican salsa star Gilberto Santa Rosa and features rhythms like rumba, urban music, and more.
Havana D'Primera remains one of the most influential salsa bands in the last 25 years, and this June, they’re back to bring that unique Cuban salsa fire straight to the 21st edition of the Croatian Summer Salsa Festival!
